Peter Skourtis What lies beneath

Work by Peter Skourtis

My artwork responds to the elevated toxic levels found in bays, rivers and from demolition sites. It acknowledges the attempts made to remove dioxin from soil and sediments. The combination of layers using diverse materials became a strong element as it represented the emitted toxins and fumes. The abstract conventions and treatment of surfaces by Kiefer and George Raftopoulos were a source of inspiration for my art-making. The title entices the viewer to search below the surface and delve into the hidden layers to uncover what lies beneath.
