Julia Coursey Catalyst
This body of work explores the process of photograms, which are experimental in nature and, therefore, one of a kind. I wanted to use ephemeral objects that resemble microscopic studies of organic matter or celestial beings. Surprisingly, I used everyday objects like fruit, dandelions, fabric, glass and bubbles to generate subject matter. I also created ink ‘prints’ through the simple process of blowing bubbles in a dish of ink and printing onto paper. The imagery suggests the start of something, a catalyst; development of cells, atoms, human creation. The repetition of luminous spheres creates continuity and unity in the body of work.
