Alexandra Hunt Building a metropolis
Building a metropolis explores the development of urban society and our part in its growth and expansion. Through its expressive form, the relationship between humanity and the metropolis is deconstructed. I opted for fragmentation in the ink drawings to contrast with the linearity of the video, as a way of rendering the loss of identity and certainty within metropolitan constructs. This stems from extensive research into existentialist theory during the creation of the body of work. The initial ink on paper approach soon flourished into other media (eg video used to capture the inking process, to encapsulate urban construction).
