Josie Stevens Social tapestry

My artwork Social tapestry is a postmodern interpretation of the Bayeux Tapestry. It examines a contemporary social milieu and portrays the current issues of war, poverty, invasion and immigration, industrialisation and pollution, and politics. The purpose of the Bayeux Tapestry was to document social events. It tells the story of William the Conqueror, the Norman invasion of England and the Battle of Hastings in the 11th century. It does this without attempting to find answers or justification – it merely records the events – as well as remaining free of prejudice; qualities I tried to emulate in my own work.
