Callan Micallef The observers
My work was inspired by society’s concerns about privacy and surveillance in our day-to-day lives, and my own experience of growing up surrounded by the cameras of my photographer parents. I tried to reflect the concerns of the public on this topic through a visual depiction of the paranoia that surrounds it. The work represents the constant feeling of being watched, where the drawings are interpretations of existing technologies. The use of old technology in the works clearly shows the machine’s functions, which are usually hidden in contemporary technologies, while paying homage to my family’s past.
