My work shows a progression of modern built environments engulfing beautiful old architecture and nature. The new erases the old: society quickly builds over the beauty of the past. White clay dugongs are ‘boxed in’ like ‘fish out of water’, a symbol for antique architecture being sadly overtaken by the new, yet hollow and cold, built environment. This work shows how both beautiful antique structures and nature can be thoughtlessly displaced and tossed away in favour of empty modular apartment living; former icons of beauty, wildlife and architecture being replaced according to the zeitgeist of our time.
