Sofia Papageorgious Reframed
Reframed is a considered investigation into the act of seeing. My work seeks to appropriate the historical function of the male portrait bust as sculpture that pays homage to the ‘great men’ of history. Through a deliberate rejection of conventional sculptural materials such as bronze and marble, my work subverts the artistic immortalisation of the male form and instead makes use of aluminium to replicate the aesthetic of expressive contour drawing. This disavowal of the historical representation of men deconstructs pervasive concepts of masculinity and reframes the male form within a more nuanced context of deferred, unstable meaning.
