Sophie Linton Musician man

The musician man controls – the music, the childhood play, the relationship … the violence. My body of work captures the development of abusive power in a relationship where the young girl is at first a passive but engaged playmate, but later a victim. The boy senses very early his ability to exert power without consequence. The innocent rural setting of children playing happily contrasts with the isolation of both adults ‘trapped’ in a relationship and the sense of helplessness that ensues. The work is set in the 1940s and plays on stereotypes of ‘women’s role’ in society at that time.
