Neil Haddon I read 'The day of the triffids' when I lived in England (and now I live in Tasmania)

This painting is concerned with the difficulties of constructing meaning in pictures when the supporting contexts for the imagery are unfamiliar. It draws on my experience as a migrant to Tasmania (via six years in Spain) and the ways that migrants find their own poetic meaning in the unfamiliar contexts of a new home.

This work conflates aspects of well-known paintings by Paul Gauguin and John Glover and includes other abstracted constructions to picture an unstable Tasmanian landscape where meaning is in a state of flux and is perpetually renegotiated according to the influences of where the artist once was and where he finds himself now.
