Visit FAQs

The Art Gallery of New South Wales has two art museum buildings in the Domain overlooking Sydney Harbour on Gadigal Country. These have been given Sydney Aboriginal language names.

Naala Nura, which means ‘seeing Country’, is our historic building on the south part of the site.

Naala Badu, which means ‘seeing waters’, is our new building on the north part of the site.

This page provides information for visiting the campus and buildings.

FAQs

Do I need a ticket?

Entry to the Art Gallery is free and does not require a ticket. There are no charges or tickets required to visit most of the displays and exhibitions.

Can I take photographs?

In most places in the Art Gallery and on our campus, you’re welcome to take photos or make videos or films if it’s for personal use only; you don’t use a flash, selfie-stick, tripod or monopod; there is no sign prohibiting photography; and it doesn’t interfere with or disrupt other visitors or Art Gallery operations. Check with one of the uniformed Gallery officers if in doubt.

Commercial use of images requires Art Gallery permission. See Using images of the collection

Commercial photography and filming at the Art Gallery or on our campus must be authorised in advance. To enquire, email venuehire@ag.nsw.gov.au

Are there cloaking facilities?

There are free cloaking facilities near the welcome desk on the ground level of our south building, Naala Nura, and in the welcome hub near the entrance to our north building, Naala Badu.

These facilities are limited so bags and other items should be kept to a minimum when visiting, especially during busy periods.

You may bring small bags (including backpacks) into the Art Gallery if they are worn on your front or carried by hand at your side. Items such as large bags and backpacks, luggage, recreational scooters, skateboards, and flower arrangements are not allowed inside the Art Gallery and must be checked in at cloaking. Thank you for helping us keep the artworks safe.

Can I bring a pram?

You are welcome to take a pram into the Art Gallery, and all our spaces are pram-accessible.

For family activities or recommendations, talk to our staff at the welcome hub at our north building, Naala Badu, or at the welcome desk at our south building, Naala Nura. See also For kids and families

Do you have free water?

There is a bubbler or drinking fountain near the bicycle racks in front of our north building, Naala Badu. There is another in our south building, Naala Nura, on lower level 1, outside the toilets and near the stairs. Water is also available for members at the bar in the Members Lounge on lower level 3 of that building.
